ImageInVents - An Integrated Series of Events for High-level Training on Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Controlled Drug Delivery and Related Emerging Fields
The Scope of InVENTS
InVENTS is organized in a similar way to the GRCs to support and encourage the participation of scientists as way to allow them to establish scientific and personal contacts, as well as to promote discussions and the free exchange of ideas at the research frontiers of the biological, chemical and physical sciences. These objectives will be accomplished by joining together leading scientists in each particularly field with young researchers and by promoting extensive collaborative working sessions aimed at fostering ideas/experiences exchanges between young researchers and experienced ones. The Marie Curie Cutting Edge Conferences belong to the coherent formation path aimed to develop solid scientific and research skills that will ultimately lead to both academic and industrial excellence. Additionally, the conferences will address complementary topics such as the ethical issues, research management, intellectual property, technology transfer aimed at improving the awareness and help on the career development of the researchers.

Who should attend?
The InVENTS series of events is open to all researchers and professionals active in the fields dealing with biomaterials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, stem cells, biomineralisation, nano-self-assembly, and drug delivery applications. However, InVENTS specially encourages early-stage researchers to apply to the events.

Submission and Evaluation of abstracts
Participants willing to present their work at the event should submit an abstract of their work. Any author should submit their abstracts electronically by using our on-line submission tool. For each conference there will be a deadline for abstract subission. Click here for 1st Marie Curie Cutting Edge abstract submission and deadline.
This is the only option available for abstract submission. A sample abstract is available for download here:

The selection of participants by the scientific committee for any of the events will be based on the scientific merits of submitted abstracts and CV´s of the applicants. The evaluation of the submitted abstracts will be responsibility of the scientific committee. The scientific committee follow the InVENTS governing committee directives concerning the application of the fundamental principles (inherited from the EU gold standards for the evaluation of proposals) to the evaluation and selection of participants, namely: Transparency – all eligible applications will be treated using a well defined processes of evaluation and selection based upon the merits of submitted abstracts; Fair treatment – all the applications will be treated alike, irrespective of the identity, gender or eligibility of the applicants; Impartiality – all the submitted applications will be treated impartially of the respective scientific merits of the abstracts and submitted to an independent review by the scientific committee; and Efficiency and Speed – The management structure will ensure a private, rapid and efficient process of evaluation, without compromising the quality of the evaluation process. The researchers will be selected to present orally or in posters the respective selected works. In each of the events, poster and oral competitions will be conducted in order to select and award the best presentations.
Who can apply for financial support?
Financial support will be given to selected participants according to the Marie Curie Action Guidelines. The InVENTS is primarily directed at early stage researchers. However, more experienced researchers can also benefit from this action. In the context of InVENTS, 3 groups of researchers are eligible for funding:

Group 1
Early Stage Researchers;
Group 2
Experienced Researchers with up to 10 years of experience;
Group 3
Experienced Researchers with more than 10 years of experience, who are nationals of Member States or Associated States and active outside these states at the time of the event (for contact-building effect).

The Marie Curie definition of Early Stage Researchers
“Early-stage researchers are defined as researchers in the first 4 years (fulltime equivalent) of their research activity, including the period of research training. The reference period to qualify for an early stage training activity: - is counted from the diploma giving access to doctoral studies (the degree must entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without having to acquire any further qualifications) in the country in which the diploma was obtained, - covers the first 4 years of experience in research or the period until a doctoral degree is obtained, whichever is shorter. Persons who have obtained a doctorate are ineligible for the early stage actions, independently of the time taken to acquire it”.

The Marie Curie definition of Experienced Researchers
“Experienced researchers are defined as i) researchers having at least 4 years of research experience (full-time equivalent) since gaining a university diploma giving them access to doctoral studies (the degree must entitle the holder to embark on doctoral studies, without having to acquire any further qualifications), in the country in which the degree/diploma was obtained or ii) researchers already in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it.”. Researchers with more than 10 years of research experience (full-time equivalent), counting from the time the degree/diploma was obtained giving access to embark on a doctorate in the country where it was awarded, will not be eligible for support, except in the case of researchers who are nationals of Member States, or Associated States active outside these states at the time of an event: these researchers shall be eligible, so that they may establish or strengthen links with the European research community (contact building effect for the transfer of knowledge)."

Finding your way through the eligibility criteria
In the following flow chart, the conditions are described under which a researcher can benefit from funding in an InVENTS conference or practical training course.

Applying criteria

Selection of participants for funding
Participants willing to apply for funding should submit an abstract for scientific evaluation. The merits of submitted abstracts will be used to select participants taking simultaneously into account the level of research experience, transnational mobility and nationality of the participants.

Nature of the support
According to the Marie Curie Actions guidelines, funded participants will be eligible for funding of the following expenses:

Living Allowance: This refers to the contribution covering the subsistence expenses of the researchers attending the event(s). The contribution is intended to cover the accommodation and subsistence expenses of each eligible event participant. In InVENTS this support will be paid directly to the hotel. Selected participants will entitled to free accommodation (shared double room), as well as breakfast and lunch.
Travel Allowance: This refers to a contribution to cover partially or fully the costs of travelling between the researchers’ origin location and the location of the event(s).
Conference Fess: The registration fees of eligible participants will be paid by the InVENTS organization.
